A week after Sept 11, 2001 as a mid twenties adult, Stephanie Johnson called her parents and said, “I’ve quit my job, I’m moving to the Caribbean to become a chef!” At the time it was supposed to be a one-year self-imposed sabbatical from the “real world”. Her intention was to get the travel bug out of her system. She had never cooked or sailed but the blue-green waters of the Caribbean and a life of adventure were calling. She hoped her degree in Marine Biology and her divemaster license would get her in the door and she could figure out the rest.
When she started sending out resumes she had no idea that the one person who would respond to her dream job application would turn out to be her husband. Joining her first boat in Annapolis, MD and sailing to the Virgin Islands she fell in love with sailing and her captain.
Stephanie and Brian would go on to crew on several different yachts. From sleek modern sailboats to high-end power yachts. Their journey brought them back and forth from the harbors of New York to Trinidad. Spending most of their time in the Caribbean. Stephanie used this time to learn to cook and took great pleasure in exceeding her client's expectations.
In 2006 they decided to buy their own 72ft charter sailboat, Sublime. Brian was a dive instructor and since Stephanie had her dive masters license they created the ultimate dive charter boat. Stephanie’s love of cooking and Brian’s stellar dive skills and story telling created a very busy charter boat. Adding to their previous boats they have successfully completed over 400 charters.
Stephanie has a love of travel and other cultures which makes her a great travel planner. Working a packed schedule during the charter season Brian and Stephanie chose to continue their love of travel and exploration during the off season. Their stories include almost stepping on a baby cobra in Africa, hot air ballooning in Cappadocia, finding the Moai quarry in Easter Island, sailing off the coast of Croatia, hiking the ruins of Angor Wat and swimming with whale sharks in Mexico. Steph loved sharing the joy of a new moments with her guests and bringing home recipes from cooking courses she took while abroad.
In 2017 Sublime was sadly fatally damaged in Hurricane Irma. Always positive Stephanie decided to turn life’s lemons into lemonade and started her yacht brokerage company so that she could continue to share her passion for travel and yachting with others.
Stephanie is excited to share her love of what yachting has to offer. Adventure, luxury, good friends and family, great food and travel.
