There are two types of people when it comes to exercising on vacation. Those that say “I’m on vacation from it all” Then there are those of us that need to keep moving at all times, like a shark, or we will die!! You’ve worked hard to have that bathing suit figure and you will definitely be eating a lot of delicious meals so if you feel the need to burn some calories then here are the many ways to get your exercise on, while on charter. If you’re the type that likes to stay fit on vacation then check out the fun ways to do so while on charter.
There is the obvious, swimming. You can burn between 150-280 calories during a 30min swim. What’s even cooler is during that 30min swim you don’t just get to look at the hairballs and lost bandaids at the bottom of the pool. You get to search for beautiful marine life. Even better though have your crew drop
you off a mile from the boat and snorkel home. You can mix it up a fast swim and then stop and watch a turtle. If you’re an experienced swimmer and in for a challenge then time your vacation for the St John Beach to Beach swim. https://www.friendsvinp.org/beach-to-beach-swim-info
This race is held on St John towards the end of May. It has three different length options, 1mi, 2 ¼ mile, and 3 ½ mile options. You can swim assisted with mask and fins or challenge yourself by swimming unassisted with just goggles. Prizes are awarded for each distance and category. You could start your charter with the Beach to Beach and then feel free to indulge on gourmet food during your BVI charter for the rest of the week!!
There are several great hikes that can be found in the BVI. Some short and sweet and end at a bar and some grueling and hot and make you feel really good about having one more Painkiller, the drink of course!! There is so much information on hiking I did a whole blog on it so check out the link. For those of you that are die-hard runners, there is another event in St John that is fun to build your charter
around. It’s called 8-Tuff Miles! This run starts at sea level and you run to the top 999ft which is almost as high as the Empire State building and then back down the other side to music and margaritas!! This race is a ton of fun but appropriately named! http://www.8tuffmiles.com
What sailing? Isn’t that when I sit back and read my book? Yes, it is but try giving your crew a hand with lifting the sails or grinding a few wenches. It’s more work than they make it look like!
SUP(Stand Up Paddling)
The ultimate core workout. A paddle around the bay will have you feeling your tummy muscles. No reason you shouldn’t try to throw a little yoga in there too. No place to fall but the warm Caribbean waters.
Ask us when booking your charter and we can try to match you with a crew that can teach yoga while you are on board. Yoga on the bow, on our paddle board or on the beach is a peaceful way to start or end your day.
Check out these crewed charters that offer yoga! Contact Us if you’d like to hear more about these events and how you can plan a charter around them.
See there are so many ways to stay fit on vacation!!
