Fluoro diving also called “glow diving” is one of the coolest things to come along in SCUBA since someone learned to blow bubble rings. Divers have been trying this unique experience in the Pacific, but now you can find Fluoro diving in the Caribbean!
It’s as if Alice fell through the blue looking glass and landed in a Steve Attenborough documentary. “Curiouser and curiouser”, as Alice said.
I’ve kind of been bored by night diving for a while. Sure there is the rare octopus out hunting and the phosphorescence is cool for a little while. I find it very monochromatic and usually get bored really quickly. I spend most of my time wishing I was back on shore with a wine in hand.
However, when I heard about Fluoro diving in the Caribbean my ears perked. Using a special UV night light which blocks the blue light and a mask with a special filter on it, you can now do night dives that can be compared to being in a scene from Avatar. I personally worked really hard on the Alice reference so I was disappointed when I found this description and that it fit so much better, but it does. Better than a description though, check out the video above!
I’m so happy to report that you can now try Fluoro diving in the Caribbean while on a crewed charter. And, if you are someone who likes to collect PADI Specialty cards you can add another one to your collection. Captain Kieran Bown & Michelle Preciado of S/C Braveheart can take you on a Fluoro dive. Not only can they feed you great food and deliver you to great diving locations but if you’re interested they can show you the wonderful new nighttime world of Fluoro diving!!
