Sailing the Grenadines
Grenadines Yacht Charter - Sample Itinerary
DAY 1 Board your Grenadines crewed yacht charter in Blue Lagoon, St Vincent. You’ll be served a well presented lunch and then you’ll have a couple hour sail to Bequia. The homes on this sweet island have a West Indies style and it’s a great spot to pick up gifts made by local artists. Be sure to check out the model boats made on the island. There is a great dive/snorkel just outside the harbor, keep an eye out for Frogfish!! At sunset take a dingy ride to see Moonhole House. A house built into the rocks that is now a rental property.
DAY 2 Mustique is a short trip from Bequia and the history of the island is a web of rumors and stories of some of the celebrity home owners such as, Mick Jagger, Tommy Hilfiger and Princess Margaret. The Mustique Company does a wonderful job of preserving the island so rent a golf cart and venture over to The Cotton House and Macaroni Beach. On your way back be sure to stop into the Firefly for a cocktail and to look over the bay below where you can see your yacht. Venture in for an evening of dancing at Basil’s Bar, you never know who might pop in!
DAY 3 Sail to Mayreau and your crew will anchor in Saltwhistle Bay. On this small island you can walk from one bay to the next and catch a view of the Tobago Cays, your next stop. While you’re here though have a drink at the Beach Club and jump in the water for a snorkel. This is a great place to find a Flying Gurnard, a beautiful fish that walks along the sandy bottom and doesn’t show it’s true colors until it’s startled.
DAY 4-5 The Tobago Cays. These 4 uninhabited islands and a horseshoe reef make for one of the most majestic anchorages anywhere in the world. The Tobago Cays are a Marine Conservation Park with the 3rd largest reef in the world right in front of you. You’ll anchor in just a few feet of water and then your crew can take you out to snorkel the reef. If you’re a diver schedule a rendezvous dive and don’t miss Mayreau Gardens a drift dive that brings you along the reef and through massive schools of fish. Even after spending two nights in this beautiful spot you won’t want to leave.
DAY 6 Sail to Union Island and wonder around town. Visit Happy Island, the coolest little beach bar on an island made of conch shells. After motoring around the corner to Chatham Bay be sure to look for Shark Attack, he owns the little bar on the beach and does a great BBQ if you’re looking for an authentic island meal off the boat.
DAY 7 A day in Carriacou is a day of beaches and swimming. You can kayak into the mangroves and see if you can get some of the mangrove oysters. They are tiny but sweet and salty!
DAY 8 After a full week on your charter boat you should have your sea legs so today is a big sailing day down the coast of Grenada. This is a great day to watch for Pilot, Sperm, Sei and Pygmy whales and several species of dolphin including the fun-loving spinner dolphin!
DAY 9 You’ll need a full day in Grenada because this large island has so much to offer. Your crew will organize a day trip for you. You can see a cocoa plantation and taste the cocoa fruit. You’ll be surprised to hear the process behind the making of chocolate. In Grand Etang Rainforest you’ll understand why Grenada is called the spice island. You’ll be able to pull cinnamon right off the tree, ginger from the ground, and learn that nutmeg and mace come from the same tree. If you have an adventurous group then head to Seven Sisters Waterfall where a guide can show you how to navigate from one fall to the next ending in a 40ft jump from the final waterfall.
DAY 10 A final delicious breakfast and it’s a close drive to the airport.
